The Story Behind The Good Grandson
My name is Josh Turner,
and I am the owner of
The Good Grandson – Senior Home Services, this business is truly the result of a lifetime of experience, hard work, and heart.
My story starts early — back in grade school, helping the elderly gentleman up the street with yardwork. One summer I earned $15 and bought a used BMX bike from another neighbor. That was the first time I realized how rewarding it felt to help someone and earn something on my own.
When I was in middle school, I’d visit my grandparents in the Tri-Cities, where I became known as “Envelope Man.” My Grandma Penny ran an in-home nursing business called Today’s Nursing, and I’d spend hours helping her print and prepare envelopes for clients. Those visits taught me the value of hard work, patience, and taking pride in the little things — lessons that continue to guide me in

My first official job was at Royal Park in Spokane, where I worked alongside my dad, who was a physical therapist there. I stocked supplies for nursing home residents which gave me a deep respect and affection for our seniors and their stories.
At just 22 years old, I became the Maintenance Director at Fairview Assisted Living in Spokane. That opportunity changed everything for me. I’ll always be grateful to Dave and Heidi Bozett, the owners of Fairview — two of the kindest and most genuine people I’ve ever known. They believed in me before I even fully believed in myself. Their compassion, leadership, and commitment to doing right by their residents shaped the kind of professional — and person — I wanted to become.
A few years later, I moved back home to the Puget Sound. This time I landed in Gig Harbor, where I started and ran three small businesses, including one that was especially close to my heart — Turner Glass Works, a glass art studio and gallery in downtown Gig Harbor, opened in 2013. That shop allowed me to share my passion for creativity and community, hosting local artists and teaching lessons while building relationships with the people of this town I love. Eventually, my path led me back to serving seniors and for the past decade, I’ve proudly served as the Maintenance Director at The Lodge at Mallard’s Landing, caring for residents I often call my “extended grandparents.”
All of those experiences — from Spokane to Gig Harbor, from glass art to maintenance — have led to The Good Grandson – Senior Home Services.
It’s a business built on trust, integrity, and genuine care for our senior community. This isn’t just a business to me — it’s the culmination of my life’s work, inspired by the people who shaped me, the residents who’ve trusted me, and the belief that kindness still matters.
